Discover the hidden biology of the food on your plate and how our food provides the energy and raw materials needed by our bodies. Follow your food on its squelchy, squishy journey as we explore how our brilliant bodies use our food, and also produce our poo.
In our “You Are What You Eat” workshop and “Gums to Bum” show you will explore food and food groups by sorting out our ‘lunchboxes’, then take a totally gross tour of our digestive system and finally find out what our bodies do with the protein we eat.
We are running three sessions throughout the day, so just choose the time which suits you best.
These sessions are aimed at families with children aged 7 plus. The information and activities are suitable for an adult audience and encourage team working within your groups.
Each session includes the interactive shows (with hands-on activities/experiments – as detailed above) and includes the time to explore a COVID-19 friendly selection of hands-on exhibits.
Your pre-booked session is 1 hour 45 minutes long, starting at the advertised time (9:30 am, 11:45 am, or 2:30 pm). Exact timings within the session are dependent on the session attended and are at the discretion of the Science Communicators running the session.
All guests must wear masks throughout the session unless exempt. Hand sanitizer is placed at key contact points and hand washing facilities are available. For your safety, the session will primarily be seated. You will be seated at socially distanced tables. You are able to leave your table to go to the toilet or take a break. You will also get an opportunity to walk around the exhibits. We request you use the hand sanitizer mounted to the exhibit both before and after using the exhibit. The Gallery is cleaned between sessions.
There is an accessible-toilet on-site, and drinking water is available on request (Please note: you must supply the cup or bottle). There is a vending machine for snacks, but please do not eat during the session.
Track and Trace:
We have an NHS Track and Trace App QR code that must be scanned upon entry. If you do not have the NHS App, please let a member of staff know so they can take your details manually.
Our shop is open with a range of toys and science kits (perfect for Christmas!). Feel free to browse the shop during your session, but please ask a member of staff if you wish to purchase or examine an item.
